Field Notes for October 2014
by Tami Field, floral manager
October already, can it be possible? Our fall festival was a great success despite the early interruption of the weather, and we would like to thank everyone who helped.
We have some exciting things coming up in the next couple of months and, with the holidays just around the corner, there will be some great gift ideas.
Maybe it’s the childlike nature coming out in “mature” gardeners, but whatever the reason, fairy gardens have become one of gardening’s hottest trends lately. Fairy gardens are miniature gardens constructed of diminutive plants and tiny accessories designed to lure fairies.
They can be outside gardens with in-ground plants, or they can be mini container gardens intended mainly for indoors – at least part of the time. You don’t need to believe in fairies to have a fairy garden on your deck or patio, or even in your house — although it couldn't hurt. Children and adults alike will delight in planting and caring for these miniature gardens brimming with charm and intrigue.
On Saturday, November 8th, at 11am we will be presenting a fairy garden seminar, hosted by our own Bilye Jo. She will be covering many aspects of fairy gardening and we will have a variety of plants and accessories available for purchase. It’s a wonderful seminar to attend with your children and a great hobby for you to share with them. I look forward to seeing everyone there.
